"New Messages" in co-op?

I stopped playing for a period of time, and ever since I've been active again, I can't view the chat in my co-op. The last message I can see is 70 days old. However, I will sometimes be told there are "new messages". The game will not let me see these messages, whatever I do. When I close the co-op tab, it forgets the messages ever existed until next time when there are more "new messages". I can chat, and see my own chat, but I do not know if anyone else sees what I said.

Maybe if u leave and re-enter ur coop, this problem will be fixed..
Im not sure, its just a hunch
