JayS has posted a wonderful link to a post by Nevada on what is hopping.

I will add to this...if they just joined your co-op during Seasonal Regatta (SR) and have said they are "hopping"...they are Not. Hopping is only during Interseasonal Regatta (ISR).

Those players that join you during SR, stay the week, race, help and complete all tasks then leave at the end of that race week...I would call them a "visiting guest".

If they join during SR (or even ISR) and begin to race and then leave mid race...they would be jumpers. In other words...jumpers leave a co-op's race in a mess. Bess also gives a definition of jumpers in #3 of the post that JayS posted for you.
