The ability to somehow swap building materials ie 2 bricks for 1 glass Payne ect....

The option to trade building materials in the helicopter orders window (the same way we can trade gems) is already on the Frequently Suggested Ideas list, so it's possible it will be implemented in the future.

There is no way of swapping building materials with other players. In fact, the idea of being able to request building materials in the co-op chat was already ruled out by the devs (see full list here).
