I assume the give up option for 1 heart means that you are willing to give up a life to skip a level but it never works. What's up? Help please. Thanks.

The "Give Up" option does not mean that you can skip that level altogether, but just that you don't want to pay 900 coins for the extra moves to try to finish it in that level. It's just a new way to "retry" the level, it shows you that you will lose a life if you want to restart that level.
