Can't get new box adding friends. (or and unclear changelog)

Ever since the dreadful September update I can no longer earn more boxes in the market by adding friends.

This was NOT mentioned in the changelog in iTunes update.

Sure you list and I quote,

And many more cool improvements!

How is this an improvement in any way for the player?

If this was an intended change, you should list clearly any game balance adjustments in the patch notes / changelog. Make both the good and the bad known. Otherwise how are we as players supposed to what is intended and what are bugs?
