I assume you are at the right level to have unlocked "pine trees". You plant them in your fields. When Pine Trees become available there are then too many items (wheat, corn, carrots, etc) to fit on the screen and for the first time you will have to "scroll" to the right to see the pine trees. There should be little white < > arrows next to the crops indicating you have to scroll to see more.

Eventually you'll have access to 19 different crops to grow in your fields, you'll be scrolling a lot :)
